Under the dissolute Emperor Caligula, the Roman Senate gets down to serious business: drinking. But they keep on making laws. The usual penalty for disobedience: take another drink! Can you make laws that will trap your friends into going broke... or just not being able to find the table?

A drinking game unlike any other designed by Steve Jackson, Caligula is an adult party game that combines imbibing with a slate of ever-shifting rules. Players create new laws and penalties for breaking those laws, then try to trick others into running afoul of the edicts (or paying a fine).

Made for adult players, this game is perfect for game nights, block parties, backyard barbecues and other friendly gatherings. Best of all, the game's Pocket Box design makes it easy to store and transport for plenty of fun at home or on the go.

(If you want to make rules but don't want to drink, the game is completely playable without alcohol. Just assign the penalties to money and/or embarrassing forfeits, and you're golden. SPQR, baby!)

Caligula is what happens when the traditional games Nomic and Quarters love each other very much and have a rowdy little baby. The object of the game is to make laws and try to get other players to break them. When players break laws, they can either pay a fine in coins or perform a penalty action. This action might very well be "Take a drink!"

Players start by choosing the Fool (the youngest player) and the Arbiter (the oldest player).

Fools don't have to follow the rules, because their job is to mislead other players and make them laugh. But laughing at the Fool could result in a penalty. (The Fool's role passes as the game continues.)

Arbiters write down the new laws and advise players on how to word them. They also judge whether players have properly followed the rules as written. (This role also passes as the game continues.)

Once these roles have been assigned, the fun begins. On your turn, roll the Roman D20. If the die falls on an existing law, you must obey. If it falls on a blank line, you can make your own law. The object of the game is to become richer than the rest of the group combined.
